Our entire carrot harvest of 2011

I’m thinking maybe HFW’s sweet carrot jam? Scaled down, I think it’ll be, for the 1g of carrot: 0.9g sugar, juice/rind of 1/500th of a lemon, juice/rind of 1/1000th of an orange, 1/500th-3/1000ths of a cinnamon stick, 3/500th of a clove and 0.005g of nutmeg.
Now where are my scales? And my microscope?

Sad or hilarious?
I just can’t tell. In any event, better luck next year!
That makes me feel better about the fact that my carrots are all about an inch long and riddled with carrot fly. Oh, and they don’t taste very nice either.
Love the scaled-down jam recipe!
bad seed or inattentive gardener?
something has gone terribly wrong there!
might be some well feed birds about that got the rest of your seed?
Did you try swiss chard/silverbeet?
Mine went to seed and now pops up all over the place much to the chickens delight!
Oh dear, oh dear. Conversely, this is the first year I’ve managed to grow any decent carrots at all. I tried an allegedly overwintering variety called Nantes Frubund. They didn’t do too well overwinter but the very early spring sowings grew well.
Lots of my sowings of carrots never came up this year, I think it was possibly to dry. Some came up once it started to rain but by that time I’d planned other things.
There are a few in pots at home and I was thinking of sowing some today for christmas dinner, I love honey glazed carrots
Haha! I think a lot of us are in the same boat. My first sowing of carrots didn’t even come up and the second batch are only about three inches long. Hopefully we’ll have some better weather next year!
Hi guys, sorry about the late reply :)
I tried three different ways – I think the first lot, sown it what became my achocha bed, were too early and rotted in the wet weather; the ones transplanted from plugs into my new foot-square gardening raised bed, and the ones planted directly there, all got nibbled by something. This one remaining chap was left in a plug by mistake – hence its somewhat stunted nature.
I’ve had better luck in the past with baby carrots in containers but wanted to try some full size ones this year. I think I might go back to containers as baby carrots is better than no carrots – or one pathetic mini carrot :)
