Alphabet in August – Q to T
This is a month-long creative exercise led by Chiot’s Run: descriptive words and pictures about me/my life starting with each letter of the alphabet. Most people are doing a letter a day but I’m doing it in groups instead. I’m a little behind at the moment because of one of the words for L and one of the words for P… :)
- Alphabet in August – A to D
- Alphabet in August – E to H
- Alphabet in August – I to L
- Alphabet in August – M to P
(Ok, that’s a bit of a cheat but I couldn’t think of any other ideas for a Q picture and while her very-much-missed brother Carbon has been featured, alongside Boron & Lily-dog, Carla hasn’t been used for a picture yet and dagnammit, she deserves to be. :) )
Q is for…
- Quick-learner: I pick things up quickly, which is useful given my many interests!
- Quick-witted: Cheating with another “quick-” word :) There is nothing like knowing other quick-wits to speed up your own response time.
- Questioning: I accept very little on face value.
- Quitter: Quitter is a bit too strong really, I’m just not a finisher of things. I’m good at doing the first 80% of things, bad at the last 20%.
- Quibbler: This goes with “questioning” I guess but in a bad way: I get stuck on the micro details in macro arguments sometimes.
(And egg shells are one of my favourite examples of recycling since they can be baked and fed back to the chickens as a calcium booster, enabling them to produce more eggs. Weee! That’s also one of the first pictures I took for my other site, How Can I Recycle This?, back in early 2006.)
R is for…
- Rude: The aforementioned “quick-witted”ness is usually used to make puerile jokes involving wee-wees. I think it’s one of those “deliberately not being ladylike” things. And I guess that’s an example of…
- Rebellious/rule breaker: Social roles/etiquette rules mostly. I don’t like it when people do stuff just because they feel they “should”.
- Recluse: Most of the time, I prefer to be at home, with Team Peach, than out socialising.
- Reader: I know I’ve already said “book-lover” but I think it goes beyond just books. I love reading anything and everything.
- Rudderless: I think it’s a side-effect of having so many interests – I have no one driving goal in life. Most of the time I’m happy with that, I like the variety, but it does mean I feel directionless at other times.
(As the recipes list shows, I love spices and spicy food.)
S is for…
- Sarcastic: Just a little bit.
- Silly: A whole lot. I have silly dances, silly songs, silly walks, silly voices… Mostly for the amusement/annoyance of Team Peach but I also play the fool quite a lot at drama too. Dignity is overrated.
- Sceptical: Going with the “questioning” above and the “naysaying” from the other day, I naturally sceptical, which isn’t always a good thing.
- Sandgrounder: A somewhat obscure collective nickname for people/things from Southport. Away from the north-west, I more commonly refer to myself as Scouser because more people know what that means but it’s less accurate.
- Swearer: Linked to “rude”, I have a heck of a potty mouth on me.
(Except for about six months at university, my homes have always overlooked – or been overlooked by – a whole lot of old trees, even when I lived in the inner city. I can’t imagine living anywhere where I didn’t hear the sound of the wind in the leaves or birdsong.)
T is for…
- Teetotal: With the exception of a horrible lager-shandy when I was 14, I’ve never drunk alcohol and have no particular interest in trying it. I don’t mind other people drinking but it’s just not something I personally want to do – mostly because the smell alone makes me gip. Sometimes I think it’s limiting but most of the time I think it’s for the best: at various times in my life I think I would have drunk to excess, and not in a fun way, and that wouldn’t have helped things at all.
- Tom-boy: Always have been, always will be. I wear skirts about once a year if that, I like climbing trees, I dislike shoes and cushions.
- Tactless: A combination of being a joker and not being naturally polite. I bite my fist in regret after a lot of social encounters.
- Truthful: While I wouldn’t say I never tell white lies, I am by and large truthful. I used to wriggle and lie about why I didn’t want to go to social engagements, now I just say I don’t want to. Tactless? maybe. But at least it’s the truth. I also say “I don’t know” a lot instead of faking knowledge.
- Teal/turquoise: My favourite colour is somewhere in that greenish blue range.
I’ve got to squeeze U-to-Z in before the end of the month in two days, so watch this space! :)
