Alphabet in August – M to P
This is a month-long creative exercise led by Chiot’s Run: descriptive words and pictures about me/my life starting with each letter of the alphabet. Most people are doing a letter a day but I’m doing it in groups instead. I’m a little behind at the moment because of one of the words for L… ;)
(It was supposed to be “M is for mushrooms” but I found this one while looking for fungi pics. I’m very interested in fungi. I’m very amused by muddy dogs.)
M is for…
- Maps: I love maps – reading them, drawing them. I have a very good memory for them too – if I’ve looked at a map of an area once, it’s in my brain for good.
- Mediocre: My greatest fear and my growing realisation.
- Mouthy: Fitting with all the “argumentative” style words up to now, I just don’t know when to shut up sometimes.
- Multitudes: Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself. (I am large, I contain multitudes.)
- Myopic: It’s all a blur after a few feet.
(As much as I like being outside, I think I prefer the night to day really.)
N is for…
- Neurotic: I think I’m a lot better than I used to be but still *twirls finger next to head*
- Naysayer: I say no and shoot down ideas an awful lot. Partly it’s a timesaving device but mostly it’s knee-jerk.
- Ninja: I often refer to myself as a “ninja” (eg, “I’m an Ikea ninja”) and I use it as a verb a lot too (eg “can I ninja through that gap behind you?”). I’m not sure why.
- Numbers: Like “maps” but ++. When I was about 9, I used to spend hours writing lists of numbers (just basic counting into the thousands or times tables etc) in notebooks for no reason other that I just enjoyed it. I have strong emotional reactions to different numbers (eg 4 is wonderful, 3 is horrible & stuffy) and particularly like numbers with lots of factors/divisors.
- Newbie: Given I’m a generalist rather than a specialist, I often feel a newbie in lots of areas. A few years ago, I started to embrace that rather than be embarrassed by it. Now I ask a lot of questions.
(I fricking love olives. I could eat them all day. Stuffed, unstuffed, in stuff, on their own – whatever, I’ll eat them. (I didn’t take that photo but I wish I had as it look yummy. Olives and melted cheese, drooool.))
O is for…
- Opinionated: Again, fitting with “argumentative”. I have opinions about everything.
- Odd: Just a little bit.
- Old: There is nothing like working with teenagers to make you feel very, very old at 32.
- Other/outsider: Not in a “no one understands me, maaaaaan” way but how I feel in a lot of social situations. I rarely feel like I’m one of the group, I usually feel like I’m looking in from the outside, an interloper.
- Overeat: Not just olives. Sigh.
(I used to be really interested in the sociological/psychological aspects of piercings and had my tongue pierced twice. Yes that’s drool hitting his finger – it was really awkward to swallow while he was doing the pokey stuff!)
P is for…
- Picky: Not about everything but the stuff I’m picky about, I’m really picky about.
- Passionate: I’m passionate about a lot of things. Don’t get me started.
- Polite: This seems to contradict a lot of the others but I do try very hard to be polite. It doesn’t come particularly naturally but I try to stick to the general rules.
- Procrastinator: I’m always juggling a lot of balls. It makes procrastination almost too easy.
- Peach: John and I collectively call ourselves “Peach” (a portmanteau of our surnames) and together with the cats & dog, we’re Team Peach. It started as a joke but I’m not sure it is any more. I recently celebrated our team-ship in cross stitch:
Q-to-T and U-to-Z both to follow before the end of the month…!
This is spooky – the more I read about you the more I think we would get along well in real life! There are lots of things that are very similar between us :)
O is for olives! I’m with you. Here’s a pasta sauce that you might like. Your basic favourite tomato sauce, garlic, lots of sliced green olives and walnuts. Chop the walnuts so they vary in size. Simmer the sauce so the walnuts soften a little and pass the cheese of choice!
Lynsey: I’ve thought that too a couple of times. :)
Karen M: ooh, yum. I’ve not had walnuts in a pasta sauce before, sounds very interesting :)
